Midori Tajiri Makeup Artistry provides makeup classes and application for Mardi Gras costumes, balls, weddings, special occasions, or just because. Her love of celebrating life led her to New Orleans over 10 years ago. She loves helping clients feel good, and she sees each face as unique and beautiful. Most importantly she loves being a part of a special time in her client’s life. She knows she is with them on their most special days, and she takes that responsibility very seriously. Above all, she loves seeing her clients feel that boost of feeling good about themselves that makeup can provide.
Midori began playing with makeup early in life. She liked seeing the way makeup could change the way she looked. Often, she would ask family and friends to let her put makeup on them. So for her doing makeup doesn’t feel like work. She loves it, and she sees people as works of art. Her love of art and her love of makeup are tied together and both are certainly a part of who she is.
Her skills were developed from looking in magazines and trying to recreate what she saw. She learned from makeup books, and trying different techniques on other people’s faces, therefore, through trial and error she perfected her skills. She recommends putting on old movies and practicing your techniques. Midori encourages people to just try, and not be afraid of messing up, because it’s just makeup! Most importantly, like any art, you have to learn how your materials work. So the more you practice the more you learn.
For Midori, makeup is mostly an artistic choice. It is a tool that allows you to always be in the driver’s seat and control how you present yourself to the world. In other words, makeup is your tool, so if you want to feel more powerful in business or dress up as an albino space dragon, it can help you do that! She says it is important to take breaks and give your skin and yourself a break. Above all it helps you to know that makeup is a choice, and something you do for yourself.
Midori sees the sculpture and artistic structure of faces. She says she is always painting a sculpture, and she sees each of her clients as an art piece. Consequently, she believes makeup is for everyone who wants it. Makeup is about adorning our bodies and has always been something humans feel compelled to do.
