Faubourg Farms is a farm-to-table catering and private dining service in New Orleans’ 7th Ward.
I first learned about Faubourg Farms several years ago when I bought a jar of their delicious arugula pesto at my neighborhood farmer’s market, and I’ve been a huge fan ever since.
Faubourg Farms began six years ago, when owner Monte Shalett and his mom Merit began growing organic food at their urban farm. The desire to control the quality of food on their family table led them to share that food with their community: first by offering produce direct to the consumer, then through a delicious variety of dressings and pesto, and eventually evolving into a farm to table catering business that has expanded to include curated private dining experiences.
As you might imagine, caterers haven’t been in high demand over the last year, and Shalett used that time transform his backyard into a space that transports you from the neighborhood streets into a lush tropical paradise. Stepping into the space feels like stepping into a magical island dream scape.
My favorite part of what Faubourg Farms does, in both their catering and private dining service, is true farm to table cooking. The ingredients that inspire and go into each dish are grown either in their garden or sourced from local partner farms that adhere to the same standard of sustainable, locally responsible, clean farming that drove Faubourg Farm’s creation.
True foodies will want to experience on of their “Hidden Dinners”. These five course, seasonal, farm-to-table dinners with optional wine pairings, are private dinners served for two to twelve guests in Shalett’s backyard oasis. They are intimate, completely private, local, and a foodie’s dream! It is a wonderful way to enjoy fresh Louisiana ingredients carefully prepared just for you and your friends.
